Als ich vor drei Wochen eine Kaufanfrage erhielt mit der dazu gehörigen Bilderliste, ob eines der dort aufgeführten Werke zum Verkauf stünde, war dies Grund mal wieder ins Lager zu schauen. Es befindet sich gegenüber von meinem Atelier im Haupthaus und ist mehr oder minder gut geordnet. In "normalen" Zeiten schaue ich ein paar Mal pro Woche rein, sei es, um neue Leisten bzw. einen passenden Rahmen zu holen oder für einen Kaufinteressenten sein Wunschbild rauszusuchen. Mitten im Raum, wie rasch abgestellt und reingeschoben, stand ein großes Paket von Boesner, noch ungeöffnet. Oben drauf lag noch der Lieferzettel. Manches davon hatte ich inzwischen erneut bestellt und gleich im Atelier behalten. Das Paket im Lager völlig vergessen. Zum ersten Mal ging mir auf, wieviel Zeit vergangen war. Seit dem Lockdown hatte ich mein Lager nicht mehr betreten. Das hatte es zuvor noch nie gegeben. 5 Monate. Fünf lange Monate, in denen sich überall auf der Welt die Kulissen verändert hatten und die Menschen mit ihnen. Alles in diesem Raum war vor Corona, aus einer nun so fern erscheinenden Zeit, die endgültig vorbei ist. Auf all diese Relikte einer anderen Planung, einer veralteten Vision zu starren und viele Gedanken darüber in sich einsinken zu lassen war ein äußerst surrealer Moment.
Ganz real stellte sich heraus, dass von meinem ehemals sehr umfangreichen Konvolut an kleinformatigen Bildern kaum noch was da war. Die gängigen Kleinformate (40x40cm/40x60cm) hatten sich schon immer gut verkauft, und irgendwann hatte ich wohl etwas den Überblick verloren. Von der Wunschliste der Interessentin war tatsächlich nur noch ein Werk vorhanden, was ich zur Besichtigung anbieten konnte. Hohe Zeit also, ein paar Kleinformate nachzulegen. Da meine Reisetätigkeit auch in absehbarer Zukunft bei Null bleiben wird, holte ich meine Skizzenbücher wieder hervor. Für meine Landschaftsbilder sind sie für mich beim Malen von unschätzbarem Wert. Für den Betrachter allerdings, der eine mehr oder minder detaillierte Landschaftszeichnung erwartet dürften sie eine herbe Enttäuschung sein. Etwa, als würde man ein Romanmanuskript öffnen und dann ist alles nur in Steno. Wer kann das heutzutage noch lesen. Bei ist alles Kringel und Striche mit Kommentaren. Etwa wie bei diesem Bild "House On The Cliff", dem ersten Bild der neuen Kleinformat-Generation 2020: Kringel oben: "Rosa intensiv bis verschwaschen", im Kringel rechts am Blattrand: "1 1/2 Haus freundlich".

I received a purchase request three weeks ago with the corresponding list of pictures, if one of the works listed there was for sale. This was the reason for me to have a look in storage room. It is located across from my studio in the main house and is more or less well-ordered. In "normal" times I check it a few times a week, either to get new bars or a suitable frame or to find a picture for a prospective buyer. In the middle of the room, as quickly put down and pushed in, stood a large package from Boesner, still unopened. On top of it was the delivery note. I completely forgot about this package. Some of the products like gesso and primer I had ordered again in the meantime and kept in my studio. For the first time I realized how much time had passed. Since the lockdown I didn't enter my storage room. Which was 5 months. Five long months in which the whole world had changed and and the life of all of us too. Everything in this room was before Corona, from a time that now seemed so far away, finally over. To stare at all these relics of a different plan, an outdated vision and to let many thoughts about it sink in was an extremely surreal moment.
As very real however, it turned out that there was hardly anything left of my once very extensive collection of small-format pictures. The usual small formats (40x40cm/40x60cm) had always sold well, and at some point I had lost track of them. From the wishlist of the interested buyer, there was actually only one work left that I could offer her for viewing. So it's high time to add a few small formats. Since my travel activity will remain at zero in the foreseeable future, I took out my sketchbooks again. For my landscape paintings they are invaluable and very important like a log book of my memories. But for the viewer, who expects a more or less detailed landscape drawing, they might be a bitter disappointment. It's like opening a novel manuscript and then everything is only in shorthand. Who can still read that nowadays. In my sketchbooks everything is circles and lines with comments. Like in this picture "House On The Cliff": Circle at the top: "pink intensive to faded", in the circle on the right side of the leaf: "1 1/2 house friendly".
