Viele meiner Landschaftsmotive stammen aus North Yorkshire. Auf meinen Streifzügen hatte ich früher immer ein Zeichenbuch dabei. In den letzten Jahren bin ich dazu übergegangen, vor Ort mehrere Handyfotos zu machen sowie eine kurze Kompositionsskizze, in der ich eintrage, wie ich mir das fertige Bild vorstelle. Farbangaben vor allem und wie die generelle Bildstimmung sein soll. Ich würde das eher als Logbücher von Eindrücken, Assoziationen, Einfälle bezeichnen, das es mit dem, was man sich gemeinhin unter einem Skizzenbuch vorstellt eigentlich nur noch sehr wenig zu tun hat.
Dies ist die Bildstimmung an einem Frühlingsmorgen. Erste Sonnenstrahlen scheinen durch die Baumstämme, alles liegt noch hinter diesigem Schleier. Der Tag verspricht schön zu werden. Der Morgennebel hat sich bereits gesenkt, die Luft ist noch sehr frisch. Es duftet würzig nach feuchter Erde und Heidekraut.
Many of my landscapes come from North Yorkshire. On my expeditions I always had a drawing book with me. In the last few years I have started to take several photos on the spot with my phone and do a short composition sketch how the finished picture might look like. I also add color informations and how the general mood of the picture should be. I would rather describe this as logbooks of impressions, associations, ideas, which actually have very little to do with what you would call a traditional sketchbook in general.
This is the pictorial mood on a spring morning. The first rays of sunshine shine through the tree trunks, everything still lies behind this veil. The day promises to be beautiful. The morning fog has already settled, the air is still very fresh. It smells spicy like moist earth and heather.
